PA held ‘hostage’ amid international silence Yumna Patel M/Weiss 13/02/2023
The list of sanctions outlined five punitive measures:
· Israel will withhold $150 million in Palestinian tax revenues, which Israel collects on behalf of the PA. The tax revenues, which are collected on Palestinian imports and exports, represent a major source of income for the PA.
· Israel will deduct approximately $40 million from the withheld tax revenues and transfer the money to Israeli citizens whose family members were killed by Palestinians.
· Israel will completely freeze building permits for Palestinians in Area C of the occupied West Bank. Area C makes up more than 60% of the occupied Palestinian territory and is under complete Israeli military control. Israel has a long-held practice of rarely approving Palestinian construction in Area C while enforcing a policy of home demolitions.
· Israel will deny “VIP benefits” to PA officials which allow them to move freely through Israeli checkpoints and border crossings. Officials involved in any diplomatic or legal efforts to hold Israel accountable will be targeted.
· Israel will take action against Palestinian organizations that “promote terrorist activity or any hostile activity, including political and legal action against Israel under the guise of humanitarian work.”
Start of 2023, Israel kills 2 Palestinians, demolishes 2 homes
Mariam Barghouti M/Weiss 02/01/2023 At approximately 12:00 a.m. on January 2, Israeli jeeps raided Kufr Dan with the purpose of demolishing two Palestinian homes as a measure of collective punishment against the families of the two men who carried out the Jalameh checkpoint operation.
After killing the two martyrs at the beginning of this year, the Israeli military continued its demolition mission of the family home of Ahmad Abed, expelling the family members before the demolition. Last week, the UN General Assembly voted in favor of requesting an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on the legality of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank – including East Jerusalem – and Gaza. The resolution asks the court to set out the legal consequences of Israel’s violation of Palestinians’ right to self-determination and its prolonged occupation, settlement and annexation of Palestinian land since 1967.
This includes “measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character and status” of Jerusalem and the “adoption of discriminatory legislation and measures.”

Itamar Ben Gvir - Palestinian flag banned Mariam Barghouti M/Weiss 09/01/2023
On Monday, January 9, the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, banned the display of the Palestinian flag in all public spaces. This order is one in a recent string of escalating attacks on Palestinians by the newly formed ultra-rightwing Israeli government.
The Israeli minister wrote on his personal Twitter account that he “directed the Israel Police to enforce the prohibition of flying any PLO flag that shows identification with a terrorist organization from the public sphere and to stop any incitement against the State of Israel. We will fight terrorism and the encouragement of terrorism with all our might!”
For Palestinians, this is only the latest step in Israel’s execution of its Jewish nation-state law, which creates a legal framework for cementing Jewish supremacism in Palestine. Bloodbath in Jenin kills 9 Tamara Nassar EI 26/01/2023
In bloody carnage on Thursday morning, Israeli occupation forces assaulted Jenin refugee camp killing nine Palestinians, including two children and a 61-year-old woman, and injuring dozens more. A 10th Palestinian was killed by Israeli forces in occupied East Jerusalem later the same day.
The Israeli army, Israel’s domestic spying and torture agency Shin Bet and special police forces invaded the camp in the northern West Bank early Thursday supposedly “to foil imminent attack plans by a local wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad,” the Israeli military claimed, according to The Times of Israel. The Israeli army claimed that Palestinian militants fired at them, and a gunfight ensued.
The Palestinian health ministry reported that most injuries of those arriving at hospitals from Jenin refugee camp were in the head or chest, indicating that Israeli “firing at citizens was intended to kill.” Two of the dead were identified as 17-year-old Abdullah Marwan Musa and 16-year-old Wasim Amjad Abu Jaes by Defense for Children International-Palestine. Shortage of x-ray machines in Gaza Ruwaida Amer EI 27/01/2023
For over a year, according to Gaza’s ministry of health, Israel has prevented medical diagnostic devices, critical equipment such as mobile and standard x-ray machines, as well as spare parts for such machines, from entering Gaza. Along with a host of medicines and other medical equipment barred from entry, Israel’s blockade has left Gaza’s health sector dramatically undersupplied and in a constant state of crisis. This in spite of clear international guidelines and rules under the Geneva Conventions and other international agreements that the right to healthcare must be preserved in times of war. Call for retribution and collective punishment Yumna Patel M/Weiss 29/01/2023
A young Palestinian man, 21-year-old Khairi Alqam, had gone into the illegal Israeli settlement of Neve Yaakov and shot several people in the area. Seven people were killed, including six Israeli settlers, and one Ukrainian national.
Alqam, a resident of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Tur, was shot and killed on the scene. It was later revealed that Alqam’s grandfather, after whom he was named, was stabbed to death by an Israeli settler in 1998. The settler who killed his grandfather was released from prison in 2010. Hamza reportedly threw a piece of metal towards the army vehicles from a distance of close to 100 feet, when an Israeli soldier fired two shots at him from inside one of the military vehicles. Hamza was struck with both bullets, one in his mouth and one on the left side of his waist. DCIP added that he was evacuated in a private vehicle to the Rafidia Surgical Hospital in Nablus, and was pronounced dead at around 3:45 am. In fact, Israel does not permit same-sex marriage, although it does recognize such marriages if performed abroad. Israel does not even allow marriages between a man and a woman unless they are of the same religion. Mixed religious marriages are banned and there is no option for civil marriage – although, again, Israel does recognize such marriages only if they are performed in another country.
But the Jewish state’s persecution and discrimination against people based on what they believe and whom they love does not end there. In 2003, Israel adopted a law prohibiting Israeli citizens who marry Palestinians from the occupied West Bank or Gaza Strip, or nationals from several other regional states, from living with their spouse in Israel. The “emergency measure” has been renewed every year – except in 2021 – when it fell victim to Netanyahu’s efforts to discredit the coalition that briefly ousted him from the prime minister’s office. But in March 2022, Israeli Jewish racists were able to come together across party lines to renew the legislation. Since Nabil Abu al-Ayneen, though Palestinian, was born in Lebanon, the Israeli occupation refused to grant him an ID card since he was not registered in a 1967 census conducted by the Israeli army. As a result, for the past decade, the Abu al-Ayneen family has lived undocumented in Gaza. While the inequalities become most glaring in medical emergencies like Nabil’s case, being undocumented also affects day-to-day life and one’s ability to leave Gaza for any reason. The family has struggled to open a bank account or enrol in university.

The claim that Palestinians don’t exist or are an “invented people” is widespread among Zionists. In 2014, Sheldon Adelson, the late billionaire mega donor to anti-Palestinian causes and the Republican Party, similarly declared that the “Palestinians are an invented people.”
“The purpose of the existence of Palestinians is to destroy Israel,” Adelson added.
But perhaps most notorious is Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir’s 1969 declaration that “There is no such thing as Palestinians. . . . In 2017, Smotrich set out a plan to force the Palestinian people out of their homeland and take their entire land once and for all.

For Elbit, the fair was an occasion to promote technology known as Iron Fist. A range of sensors and interceptors, Iron Fist is being installed in the D9 bulldozers, with which the Israeli military often demolishes Palestinian homes. UK govt spied on Palestinian refugees Asa Winstanley & Kit Klarenberg EI 01/02.2023 Under the pretext of “academic purpose,” a consortium of shadowy intelligence contractors agreed to conceal their ties to the British Foreign Office, for the apparent purpose of surveilling and manipulating Palestinians.
The group masquerading as researchers planned to interview residents of Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon and the occupied West Bank as part of a British government initiative that was to be run out of the UK consulate in occupied East Jerusalem.

The charges of antisemitism were brought to the Church of England by Marie van der Zyl on behalf the Board of Deputies of British Jews (BoD), for which she serves as the current president. The BoD describes itself as “the voice of the UK Jewish community.”
Sizer is known around the globe for his critique of Christian Zionism and his opposition to what many human rights organizations and others are now describing as Israeli apartheid. The 1949 Geneva Conventions on the laws of war requires signatory states to pursue, prosecute or extradite those suspected of grave breaches of the conventions, such as war crimes.For that purpose the principle of Universal Jurisdiction gives a state jurisdiction over those crimes even when they didn’t occur on the state’s territory, and neither the victim nor perpetrator is a national of that state.
